Actos

Actos

ACTOS is a pioglitazone narcotic used to control blood sugar levels in people suffering from type 2 diabetes, not dependent on insulin for treatment.

Because of an increased risk of health issues involving the heart and cardiovascular system, the FDA now requires the manufacturer of ACTOS (Takeda Pharmaceutical Company) and other manufacturers of pioglitazone products to issue a “black box” warning about increased health risk.

What is a black box warning?

The FDA frequently requires drug manufacturers to print a special warning on the side of packages, or include a special slip of paper with the medication, warning the consumer that medical studies have shown that the drug carries significant risk of dangerous side effects. It is the strongest warning the FDA requires of manufacturers. The warning derives its name from the heavy black line highlighting the location on the package.

Adverse side effects and dangerous medical conditions caused by ACTOS and pioglitazone products may include:

  • Dangerous shortness of breath
  • Dangerous and rapid weight gain
  • Chest pain
  • General sick feeling, including nausea, loss of appetite, diarrhea and vomiting
  • Jaundiced skin tone
  • Blurred vision

Symptoms can be life threatening and permanent with continued use.
