However careful you may be behind the wheel, it’s impossible to predict every eventuality and you could still become involved in a car accident. Unfortunately, this is a reality that all too many New York drivers are confronted with and to which a 45-year-old mother recently lost her life.
The victim, a dialysis technician at a hospital in Smithtown, was traveling to work on June 14 when her car was allegedly broadsided by another vehicle. Following the accident, which took place a little after 4 a.m., she was transported to the hospital where she worked. Unfortunately, it was to no avail and she died of her injuries, leaving behind a husband and two sons.
The driver of the second vehicle, a 54-year-old cardiologist, was also hospitalized, but suffered only minor injuries. He was eventually arrested and he faces a charge of driving while intoxicated.
Since the crash, colleagues of the victim paid tribute to her by placing notes and flowers at the scene of the accident.
Incidents like this one in New York can cause a lifetime of pain and suffering for families. Such accidents and their results can be extremely emotionally taxing on a family. They can also cause a family to incur all manner of costs.
Families of fatal accident victims may benefit from pursuing a compensation claim if someone else was at fault in the accident. Attorneys can provide support to such families through the difficult aftermath of a fatal crash and can assist them with any claims they are able to pursue.
